Caldwell Bodywork Academy FAQ
Who is Dr. Jake Caldwell, DPT, CFMT?
Dr. Jake is a physical therapist who received a bachelor's degree in biology, a bachelor's degree in psychology, and a bachelor's degree in history from the University of California at San Diego in 2003. He received a doctorate degree in physical therapy from Chapman University in 2006, and received a certification in Functional Manual Therapy (TM) from the Institute of Physical Art, passing his exam with distinction. He combines the fields of manual therapy, psychology, and history in his approach to working with the body. He has a practice in Laguna Hills, CA, where he specializes in complex and challenging cases, and teaches continuing education courses for others who work with the body.
Are these classes only for manual therapists?
No. These classes go beyond manual therapy, showing how those who aren't manual therapists can use their skills to accomplish much of what manual therapists can do, and advancing the skills of manual therapists so that they are safer and more effective with their techniques.
Who should take these classes?
These classes are open to anyone who works with the body, including but not limited to physical therapists, massage therapists, personal trainers, movement specialists, Pilates instructors, yoga instructors, acupuncturists, and chiropractors. One of the great benefits of these classes is the interdisciplinary interaction: people with various talents and skills learning from one another.
How advanced are these classes?
The material presented ranges from intermediate to advanced and will prove challenging even to advanced practitioners, but that doesn't mean beginners are not welcome to attend. The structure of the class is such that practitioners at all levels will learn a lot and find new techniques and approaches.
Is there a particular order in which these classes should be taken?
No. Each class stands alone. Balancing the Six Imbalances serves as a great introduction to the other classes, but should not be considered a prerequisite for the other classes, and it contains much material that is only discussed within that class.
Are there any books or reference materials for these classes?
Yes. Included in the cost of each class is a book including details of the class material. A list of references is included in each class book, including many texts for further reading and study. In addition, I have written four books which can serve as introductory and reference materials for these classes: products.
